Proctor's Stead Caravan Park
A peaceful countryside campsite just minutes from the Northumberland coast
If you're looking for somewhere peaceful, friendly and perfectly placed for exploring the Northumberland coast, Proctor's Stead Caravan Park is a lovely little find.
Set in the countryside near Craster, this is a quiet, family-run park surrounded by open fields and beautiful Northumberland scenery.
It's ideal if you want to escape the larger holiday parks and enjoy somewhere more relaxed, while still being close to the coast, beaches, castles and villages that make this part of Northumberland so special.
Peace, Space & Countryside
One of the things I love about Proctor's Stead is its setting.
You're surrounded by countryside, so it feels wonderfully peaceful, particularly in the evenings when you can simply sit outside and enjoy the quiet.
The site is well cared for and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, making it a great base rather than a busy holiday resort.
And, of course, Northumberland is made for travelling with dogs, with countryside walks, coastal paths and miles of beaches to explore.
Explore Northumberland
This is where Proctor's Stead really comes into its own.
You're just a short distance from Craster, one of my favourite little villages on the Northumberland coast.
From the harbour you can walk along the spectacular coastal path to Dunstanburgh Castle, with the ruins rising above the coastline ahead of you.
Continue towards Embleton Bay for one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in Northumberland.
You're also perfectly placed for exploring Alnwick, Warkworth, Amble, Seahouses and Bamburgh, making Proctor's Stead a brilliant base if you want to see more of the county.
Don't Miss... Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle
If you only do one walk while you're here, make it this one.
Start at the little fishing village of Craster and follow the coastal path north towards Dunstanburgh Castle.
There's something rather special about watching the castle gradually appear ahead of you as you walk along the coastline.
The dramatic ruins sit on a headland overlooking the North Sea and the views along the way are fabulous.
And when you get back to Craster, you can always reward yourself with something to eat and a wander around the harbour — and perhaps try one of the village's famous Craster kippers.
It's Northumberland at its best.
Why We Like It
Proctor's Stead is another particularly personal recommendation for Woodfin Travel because I've actually worked here as a campsite warden.
That means I've seen the site from a very different perspective to simply arriving as a guest for a couple of nights.
I've spent long days here, got to know the park and the people who stay, and had plenty of time to explore this beautiful part of the Northumberland coast.
What I particularly like is that it still feels like a proper little campsite — peaceful, friendly and surrounded by countryside — rather than a large commercial holiday park.
If you like smaller sites, beautiful scenery and having the Northumberland coast almost on your doorstep, it's definitely one I'd recommend.
